We’ve been following this story for a few days and couldn’t believe this guy was able to escape in such a well populated area as Manhattan. Well, they finally caught up with him…you can’t bring a hammer to a gun fight. A very brave cop took this guy down after the suspect (David Baril, 30, from the Bronx) lunged after a female cop. You can see in the video in the upper right-hand side as the cop goes for Baril he lunges after her but another cop was able to shoot Baril to disarm him.

Cops on Wednesday shot the man believed to be the hammer-wielding attacker who assaulted four people in Manhattan earlier in the week, police sources said.

The gunfire in Midtown erupted at W. 37th St. and Eighth Ave. about 10 a.m., the source said. Cops found a hammer in the street after the shooting, the sources said.

Details about the shooting weren’t immediately available. The man who was shot by cops was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

HAMMERATTACKER

Police were looking for the madman who allegedly attacked two women and two men during a six-hour terror spree Monday.

The fiend approached a 28-year-old woman sitting on a park bench in Union Square, took the hammer from a bag and hit her in the face with it.
About 10 minutes later he ambushed a 33-year-old woman and struck her in the back of the head on W. 17th St. near Union Square. Both women suffered minor injuries.

Hours earlier, a 20-year-old man told cops somebody hit him in the back of the head about 1:45 p.m. at W. 35th St. and Sixth Ave. Another woman told cops someone clocked her in the head with an unknown object at 27th St. and Madison Ave. at 5:10 p.m.

Police used facial recognition technology to identify the suspect from surveillance images, and were hunting for him.
