LA’s Gascon bans prosecutors from attending parole meetings and notifying victims and their families
Los Angeles’s crooked, radical-left, Soros-backed, district attorney George Gascon has made one thing clear in his reign as prosecutor: Criminals have more rights than victims.
His repeated lenient sentencing and frequent paroling of violent criminals has led to tragedy after tragedy in the city of angels, and his most recent actions have further endangered victims on behalf of their attackers.
In Los Angeles’s prosecutors office there exists a group of lawyers forming a parole unit, known as the “Lifer” unit. The Lifer unit made it their job to notify victims and their families when their assailants would have parole meetings.
Gascon has said that the unit will be disbanded by the end of the year, meaning families and victims will no longer be notified by prosecutors even if their assailant gets out of prison on parole.
His office claims that being informed of the parole meetings can be “triggering” to victims, and they also made the following statement on the decision:
“While a victim has a right to be notified, they also have a right NOT to be contacted,” Gascon’s office said. “Lawyers in the parole unit have been using Victim Service Representatives, paralegals, and Bureau of Investigation resources to contact victims and their next of kin who have not requested to be notified of parole hearings.”
Deputy District Attorney Julianne Walker, however, disagrees with the decision:
“Their skills are providing emotional support and services,” Walker said. “Gascon continually puts forth ‘services’ as if he is protecting their ‘rights.’ He is not. He is abandoning their constitutional rights and thinks a band-aid of some type of service like counseling will make up for his refusal to protect their rights.”
This comes after Gascon has banned prosecutors from attending parole meetings.
Gascson has repeatedly, especially with these latest moves, shown callous disregard for the lives and rights of victims while coveting those of criminals.
As such, he now faces a recall vote after a group turning in a petition with thousands more signatures than what was necessary. Whether he stays in office will now be at the discretion of LA voters, many of whom are fed up with the liberal DA.
