This is so terrible and tragic.
A 22-year-old Penn State student was shot and killed on Saturday after chasing down robbers who stole his phone.
The incident happened right outside his home in south Philadelphia.
The New York Post reported:
A Penn State student preparing for his senior year was shot and killed while trying to stop robbers taking his phone — which was then just tossed under a car.
ADVERTISEMENTBilly Schmidt, 22, was seen in surveillance footage being held up steps from his family’s home in south Philadelphia around 1:30 a.m. Saturday — with a gunshot ringing out soon after he was heard pleading, “Give me back my phone.”
He was rushed to the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“Over a phone. It’s abhorrent,” Ezra Roulinavage, who lives near the shooting, told NBC 10. “It’s just unbelievable that someone would kill someone over a phone.”
Schmidt’s father, Bill, said his son had been heading home from watching the NBA Finals with friends when he was killed for the phone, which he eventually found discarded under a car.
Surveillance cameras caught the whole incident.
But, so far, no arrests have been made in connection to the murder of Billy Schmidt.
This NBC 10 news clip shared some of the footage:

A young man with his whole life ahead of him — gone, in a city that has let violent crime run wild.
Billy deserved to make it home.
Lock up the thugs who did this and pray for his family

This innocent, promising young man’s life was cut far too short over something as stupid as a cell phone.
And yet, the mainstream media is silent about this killing committed by “local youths.”
And, we all now why…

Billy Schmidt’s father Bill is absolutely furious over his son’s murder.
6 ABC shared what he had to say:
“He was a really good person who cared about everybody and never hurt or bothered a soul, never bothered anyone and for him to get shot like that is a travesty,” said Bill Schmidt, the victim’s father…
“I’m shocked when they stole his phone that he chased them,” He said. “Supposedly when he got to the corner, another came out and he shot him,” he said.
Neighbors began creating a memorial at the location where Schmidt was shot, directly across the street from where he lived.
“The neighbors, we come together, it’s really important. It’s sad we have to come together over a death,” said Michael Smith, a nearby resident.
Neighbors have also assisted investigators by providing surveillance footage. One video shows two men walking, with one turning around and appearing to speak with Schmidt. Schmidt then follows the man. Another video shows one person ducking behind parked cars while the other runs away.
ADVERTISEMENT“I want to find the two people and make them pay,” Bill Schmidt said.
So sad for the family.
Please pray for them in their time of grief.
Hopefully, the killers will be caught soon and pay for their horrific crimes.
As always, e’ll continue to bring you any further developments as they come in.
