Amanda Reallan Hayden was picking up her kid from Meadows Elementary School the other day, when she saw three young boys doing something so patriotic and so special, that she took a photo of them to capture it. The photo, that she later posted on Facebook, shows two young boys holding the ends of the flag, as one young boy lays on the ground under the flag to make sure it doesn’t touch the ground.

The photo has now gone viral.

In addition to posting the amazing photo to Facebook, Reallan wrote:

Hayden Meadows Elementary School!!! This needs to go viral!
Wow! I just watched the most amazing act of Patriotism! Was waiting to pick up my children from school when three boys took down the flag. They were having a hard time making sure it didn’t touch the ground when the third boy laid under it to honor not letting it touch the ground!

After KHQ News of Spokane, Idaho heard about the patriotic act, they traveled to Hayden Meadows Elementary School to talk to the boys and find out why one of them was seen lying on the ground under the American flag, while the other two folded the flag above him?

The 5th grade boys told the reporter from KHQ, that they were just trying to do the right thing, by making sure the US flag is taken down, folded and stored properly.

Jack, the boy who can be seen lying under the flag in the photo tells the TV crew, “This is our nation’s flag, our school’s flag. It’s how we represent our country.” Jack explained, “If you let it touch the ground, it means that you disrespect our country.”

The boy’s elementary school custodian, “Mr. Mack”, who is a 20-year veteran of the US Air Force, taught the boys how to fold and store the flag.

Mr Mack says the boys “did themselves proud” and that they “did their school proud” and “did their families proud.”

NFL athletes have been receiving a lot of attention for disrepsecting our American flag by kneeling during our national anthem, so this story of three young boys who have so much regard for our flag is especially heartwarming for those of us who hold our flag and our nation in the highest regard.

Well done boys—well done!

God bless America, and God bless these boys!
