President Trump just put a sharp Cuba accountability story in front of his audience, and it centers on a treason-investigation call from a Cuban-American Republican in Congress.
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis says Democrats and liberal groups helping Cuba get around U.S. sanctions should be investigated by the FBI, Treasury, and Justice Department.
That is not soft language. It is the kind of charge that lands hard when the target is a communist regime that has spent decades crushing its own people.

Malliotakis made the comments in an interview with the John Solomon Reports podcast, according to Just the News.
The report said she was reacting to Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s trip to Havana and her conversations about getting oil to Cuba around American sanctions.
Just the News laid out the comments and the Cuba trip this way:
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, a prominent Cuban-American who represents New York in the U.S. House, tells Just the News she wants the FBI to investigate Democrats and liberal groups helping Cuba evade U.S. sanctions for the lone crime America’s founding fathers explicitly identified in the Constitution.
“Look, I personally, think they need to be investigated for treason,” Malliotakis said during a wide-ranging interview with the John Solomon Reports podcast. “I think that they really need to be investigated by Treasury, also by Justice.”
The New York Republican was reacting to an admission by Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., that she recently took an official government trip to Havana and also talked to foreign countries about finding a way to get oil to Cuba around US sanctions and a naval blockade.
Malliotakis said she wants to see the House ban the use of tax dollars to make such trips to foreign enemies’ soil.
“What we need to do is ensure that none of these congressional delegation trips that are funded by the taxpayers go to actually visit our adversaries and undermine our government,” she said.
That last line is the heart of the issue.
American taxpayers should not be funding trips to adversary regimes that end with lawmakers working against American pressure campaigns.
That concern becomes even sharper when the regime in question is Cuba, a communist dictatorship Malliotakis knows personally through her own family history.
Malliotakis, whose mother fled Cuba under the Castro regime, also applauded the Trump Justice Department’s decision to indict 94-year-old Raul Castro over the 1996 shootdown of two American planes.
President Trump shared the Just the News article on June 2, 2026, headline and link intact, according to the Trump Archive.

The message from President Trump’s orbit is clear: if lawmakers are helping a hostile communist regime evade U.S. pressure, they should expect scrutiny.
Malliotakis wants that scrutiny to come from the FBI, Treasury, and Justice, and President Trump just made sure the country saw the call.
