Republican House Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina is drafting legislation that would create a new $250 bill featuring President Trump.

If it comes to pass, this would be a historic move.

President Trump would become the first living president ever featured on U.S. currency.

Along with being historic and a great way to honor one of the best (if not the best) presidents of our time (all time?), the new $250 bill would also reflect the massive inflation we’ve seen over the past few years in our nation.

Currently, federal laws prevent any living person from being featured on U.S. currency.

So, in order to make it happen, legislation would need to pass to change this rule.

The Hill reported:

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) says he is preparing legislation to feature President Trump on a new $250 bill.

“Grateful to announce that I am drafting legislation to direct the Bureau of Graving and Printing to design a $250 bill featuring Donald J. Trump,” Wilson wrote in a Tuesday post on X with a mock-up of the proposed bill.

Current laws prevent a living person from appearing on U.S. currency.

Despite the contradiction with federal law, Wilson said he wants to honor the president for his financial policies, drawing a contrast to the previous administration.

Why It Matters

If approved, the proposal to put Donald Trump on a new $250 bill would be a historic first, making him the only living current or former president to be featured on U.S. currency.

What To Know

Under the legislation, proposed by South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing would be directed to design a $250 bill with President Trump’s face on it.

Wilson cited “Bidenflation” as a reason for the move, claiming the economy now forces Americans to carry more cash. “Most valuable bill for most valuable President!” he added, on X, formerly Twitter.

“Bidenflation” is a term coined by critics of former President Joe Biden to describe the rise in inflation during his administration. Under his presidency, inflation peaked at 9.1 percent in mid-2022, the highest rate since the early 1980s.
