President Trump said Democrats are “far more likely” to win the midterms and the next presidential election if Republicans do not terminate the filibuster, calling it “The Nuclear Option.”

He said it will be “impossible for Republicans to get Common Sense Policies done with these Crazed Democrat Lunatics being able to block everything by withholding their votes.”

“FOR THREE YEARS, NOTHING WILL BE PASSED, AND REPUBLICANS WILL BE BLAMED. Elections, including the Midterms, will be rightfully brutal. If we do terminate the Filibuster, we will get EVERYTHING approved, like no Congress in History. We will have FAIR, FREE, and SAFE Elections, No Men in Women’s Sports or Transgender for Everybody, Strong Borders, Major Tax and Energy Cuts, and will secure our Second Amendment, which the Democrats will also terminate, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump said.

“If we don’t do it, they are far more likely to do well in the upcoming Elections, which would mean a PACKED Supreme Court, 2 more States and 4 more Democrat Senators (D.C. and Puerto Rico), and 8 more Electoral Votes. Remember, Republicans, they are going to end the Filibuster as soon as they get the chance We know this because they already tried, and the only two people who didn’t go along are now out of office. But they have much less chance of WINNING if we have Great Policy Wins after Wins after Wins,” he continued.

“IN FACT, THEY WILL LOSE BIG, AND FOR A VERY LONG TIME. TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER NOW, END THE RIDICULOUS SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATELY, AND THEN, MOST IMPORTANTLY, PASS EVERY WONDERFUL REPUBLICAN POLICY THAT WE HAVE DREAMT OF, FOR YEARS, BUT NEVER GOTTEN. WE WILL BE THE PARTY THAT CANNOT BE BEATEN – THE SMART PARTY!!!” he concluded.

Newsweek shared:

The filibuster is a key reason Republicans cannot unilaterally move forward with reopening the federal government, now the joint longest in United States history. Most Democrats say they will not vote for a stopgap funding bill until expiring Obamacare subsidies are extended, citing a sharp rise in health insurance premiums about to hit Americans.

Trump is aware that the fallout from a shutdown under his administration, such as a lapse in SNAP benefits, could backfire at the ballot box in the 2026 midterms and reduce his ability to push through his ambitious, hardline policy agenda if he loses the Republican trifecta for his final two years. Removing the filibuster would also make it easier to push his agenda through.

The GOP says Democrats are holding Americans hostage with the shutdown because they will not support a “clean” bill that continues current federal funding for several weeks to keep the government open while bipartisan negotiations on a full appropriations package take place.

“Senate Majority Leader John Thune says there’s not enough support from Republicans to eliminate the filibuster despite President Donald Trump’s push,” Fox News stated.

Fox News has more:

While President Donald Trump is pressuring Senate Republicans to nix the filibuster, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said during an interview on Fox News Radio’s “Guy Benson Show” that “there just simply aren’t the votes” to eliminate the “60-vote threshold.”

While Republicans hold the majority in the upper chamber, the procedural hurdle serves as a check on the majority party’s power due to the threshold required to advance matters towards a vote in the chamber.

Thune suggested that there is likely no more than 10 to 12 of the 53 GOP senators who would vote to eliminate the filibuster.

The senator said it had been an “important tool” for Republicans when they had the minority, noting that last year they “blocked a whole host of terrible Democrat policies” due to “the 60-vote threshold.”

While Thune suggested that Democrats would vote to eliminate the filibuster if they have the majority, he warned that if Republicans “do their dirty work for them,” Republicans will “own all the crap” Democrats would later do.
