The 2026 midterms are shaping up to be huge.
So far, Republicans have far out-fund-raised Democrats and are poised for major victory.
In light of this, President Trump just announced that he is thinking of holding a Republican National Convention next year prior to the midterms.
This has never been done before.
President Trump floated the idea on Truth Social:
The Republican Party is doing really well. Millions of people have joined us in our quest to MAKE AMERICA, GREAT AGAIN. We won every aspect of the Presidential Election and, based on the great success we are having, are poised to WIN BIG IN THE MIDTERMS. We have raised far more money than the Democrats, and are having a great time fixing all of the Country Destroying mistakes made by the Biden Administration, and watching the USA heal and prosper. The results are incredible, a record pace!!! In that light, I am thinking of recommending a National Convention to the Republican Party, just prior to the Midterms. It has never been done before. STAY TUNED!!! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
If this happens, it would be historic.
Holding a National Convention would also serve to turn out more voters.
Fox News confirmed:
President Donald Trump is considering holding a Republican National Convention ahead of the midterm elections, he announced Thursday.
Trump did not offer any details about where the convention would take place, or what would happen there, but he touted various statistics that have been beneficial for the Republican Party this year. The GOP is fighting to maintain control of both the House and Senate in 2026.
Reportedly, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is already on-board:

Just yesterday, reports broke out that Democrats are also thinking of holding a pre-midterms convention.
Per Politico:
Trump’s message comes just a day after Axios reported that senior Democratic officials were considering a similar move, as they gear up for an uphill battle to reclaim control of Congress and disrupt Trump’s Republican trifecta.
ADVERTISEMENTA pre-midterm mini-convention — which fell out of fashion among Democrats in the mid-1980s — would give prospective leaders from both parties the opportunity to audition for potential 2028 candidacies, as Democrats remains without a clear voice after November’s election loss and Republicans inch toward a post-Trump future.
A pre-midterm gathering could also give Democrats a chance to catch up on fundraising and boost public visibility. The DNC has faced steep cash challenges after the party’s presidential flop, trailing the RNC significantly in the months since. While the RNC boasted over $80 million by the end of June, the DNC had only $15 million in cash on hand, with the gap only continuing to grow.
But a rival Republican convention could threaten to overshadow the DNC’s comeback efforts, crowding out the Democrats’ push for airtime on the national stage.
What do you think?
Should President Trump hold a National Convention for Republicans next year?
