An absolute legend died today.

After living a long, full life, country music star Dolly Parton passed away peacefully at her home in Nashville, TN.

She was 80 years old.

After hearing the sad news, President Trump posted a heartfelt tribute to Dolly on Truth Social.

He also announced that he is ordering U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff for one week in honor of Dolly Parton.

Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also announced that his state will be lowering its flags to honor Dolly Parton:

Dolly Parton was truly one-of-a-kind. She will be greatly missed.

Her passing was first announced by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, in this video uploaded to social media:

During her music career, which spanned six decades, Dolly Parton sold over 100 million records and won nearly a dozen Grammys.

President Trump also tried to award Dolly Parton with a Presidential Medal of Freedom — our nation’s highest civilian award — but, she turned it down twice.

The Hill noted:

During her storied career, Parton won 11 Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards and an honorary humanitarian Oscar last year. She was also nominated for six Golden Globes, two Academy Awards and a Tony Award.

In 2006, she was one of five Kennedy Center honorees. Parton reportedly declined the Presidential Medal of Freedom three times — twice during Trump’s first term, citing the illness of her late husband Carl Dean and the COVID-19 pandemic, and once during former President Biden’s lone term.

On the latter occasion, Parton noted her preference to avoid the appearance of partisanship.

In addition to being one of the bestselling musicians of all time, Dolly Parton was known for her humanitarian work.

This included launching the Dolly Foundation, which is dedicated to funding educational programs and poverty relief.

She also oversaw her own theme park, Dollywood, in Pigeon Forge, TN.
