President Trump said on Wednesday that San Francisco, California, is the next city his administration is considering to address crime.
“These are great cities that can be fixed, so I’m going to be strongly recommending, at the request of government officials – which is always nice – that you start looking at San Francisco,” Trump said.
Trump said San Francisco was one of the country’s great cities about 10 to 15 years ago, but it’s now a “mess.”
“We have great support in San Francisco, so I would like to recommend that for inclusion, maybe in your next group,” he added.

POLITICO has more:
Trump claimed the suggested deployment comes “at the request of government officials,” as the administration continues its campaign through major U.S. cities.
ADVERTISEMENTIt was not clear who those officials are; a spokesperson for California Gov. Gavin Newsom did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But the Democrat has been harshly critical of the president’s Guard deployments, and his office put out a long statement earlier in the day to announce “significant updates to public safety efforts in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.”
“San Francisco neither needs nor wants Trump’s personal army on our streets. Contrary to Trump’s lie, no ‘government officials’ here have requested federal occupation,” Democratic state Sen. Scott Wiener said on X shortly after Trump’s announcement. “Bottom line: Stay the h*** out of San Francisco.”
The move, should Trump follow through with it, would make San Francisco the latest city to receive the National Guard on its streets — and the second in California — after the administration also sent troops to Los Angeles; Washington; Chicago; Portland, Oregon, and Memphis, Tennessee, in recent months.

Trump’s announcement follows Tesla CEO Elon Musk saying federal intervention is “the only solution at this point” to solve drug trafficking in San Francisco.
“Nothing else has or will work,” he added.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff also expressed support for President Trump sending federal troops to San Francisco.

CNBC explained:
In an interview with The New York Times published on Friday, Benioff appeared eager for President Donald Trump to send federal troops to his company’s hometown, inserting himself into a national debate about whether the president should call the National Guard into various Democrat-led cities that Trump has maligned.
The Trump administration recently deployed the National Guard to Portland and Chicago, sparking protests and lawsuits.
“We don’t have enough cops, so if they can be cops, I’m all for it,” Benioff told the Times.
ADVERTISEMENTBenioff subsequently softened his comments, writing on X on Sunday that safety is “first and foremost, the responsibility of our city and state leaders.” But a heated online conversation was already well underway.
