President Trump had a little fun with the giant UFC structure going up on the White House lawn, and the internet took the bait.
He compared the temporary arena and cage being built for UFC Freedom 250 to the Eiffel Tower, which was supposed to be temporary too and never came down.
In the clip, Trump said the structure in front of the White House was attractive to a lot of people, then joked that maybe it would never come down.
That was the line that went viral. Here is the fresh post carrying the original claim:

Predictably, plenty of people online treated the joke like a binding executive order.
So Trump gave the straight answer.
The Associated Press reported Thursday, June 4, that Trump said in the Oval Office the UFC octagon being built on the South Lawn will come down after the June 14 bout.
AP also reported that Trump said the earlier comment was made jokingly, and that he expressed dismay some people actually believed it.
So the cage is temporary, the fight is real, and the troll worked exactly as intended.
The event itself is the bigger story here. UFC Freedom 250 is built around the 250th birthday of the United States, with the main card set for June 14 at the White House.
The official UFC event page lays out the scale of the celebration:
The most historic sporting event of all time

From the Revolution to the Octagon, this historic event will connect fans through cinematic storytelling and unrivaled competition on the world’s greatest proving ground.

The fight night sits inside a much larger push from the administration to mark America’s 250th year.
The White House describes Freedom 250 as part of a full year of anniversary events under President Trump’s leadership:
On July 4, 2026, America will celebrate the most important milestone in our country’s history–250 years of American Independence. “With a single sheet of parchment and 56 signatures, America began the greatest political journey in human history,” said President Trump of this momentous anniversary.
Under the President’s leadership, the Salute to America 250 Task Force (“Task Force 250”) is executing a full year of festivities, which began on Memorial Day, 2025, and will continue through the end of 2026.
The White House is engaging all levels of government, the private sector, non-profit and educational institutions, and every citizen across the country to celebrate this historic milestone. To achieve this ambitious vision, we have created a new public-private partnership called Freedom 250.
Task Force 250 aims to inspire a renewed love for American history, encourage citizens to experience the beauty of our country, ignite a spirit of adventure and innovation to help our nation succeed for the next 250 years, and invite Americans to pray for our country and our people and rededicate ourselves as One Nation Under God.
That is the real frame. Trump turned the South Lawn into a stage for the country’s birthday and let the joke ride for a day.
The Eiffel Tower line was the bait. The answer is that the cage comes down, the celebration goes on, and the fight happens at the most famous address in America on June 14.
