President Trump just did something that could change the lives of millions of Americans, and he did it with Joe Rogan standing right behind him in the Oval Office.
On Saturday, the President signed an executive order directing the FDA to fast-track its review of psychedelic drugs for mental health treatment. We’re talking about ibogaine, psilocybin, MDMA, and other compounds that have shown incredible results in treating PTSD, depression, anxiety, addiction, and traumatic brain injuries.
And this isn’t some vague promise. This is real, concrete action. The FDA will issue national priority vouchers that can slash approval timelines from over a year down to just weeks. The federal government is putting $50 million toward state-level ibogaine research. And for the first time ever, ibogaine has received investigational new drug clearance for human trials in the United States.
Check it out:
The backstory on how this happened is almost as good as the order itself. According to Rogan, he texted President Trump information about ibogaine and the data on its effectiveness. Trump’s response? “Sounds great. Do you want FDA approval? Let’s do it.”
That’s how a real leader operates. No committees. No six-month study on whether to do a study. Just action.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who flanked the President during the signing, said the order will “remove legal impediments that block American researchers, scientists, physicians and clinicians from properly studying these medicines.” He also confirmed the administration is expanding Right to Try access so patients with treatment-resistant conditions can get these therapies under medical supervision.
The numbers backing this up are staggering. President Trump cited a 2024 Stanford University study involving 30 special operations veterans who experienced an 80 to 90 percent reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety within one month of treatment. One month. One dose.
The Washington Examiner had more on the details:
Trump stated the order represents “a moment” for these experimental treatments currently in advanced clinical trials. He emphasized they demonstrate “life-changing potential for those suffering from severe mental illness and depression, including our cherished veterans.”
VA Secretary Doug Collins stated the order “opens up new possibilities for America’s Veterans.”
Marcus Luttrell, the former Navy SEAL and author of “Lone Survivor,” credited psychedelic treatment with helping him reclaim his life and predicted the order “is going to do great things for our country.”
Think about what this means. Since 9/11, America has lost over 21 times more veteran lives to suicide than on the battlefield. Twenty-two veterans a day are taking their own lives. And the traditional pharmaceutical approach has failed them over and over again.
Psychedelic Alpha reported on the broader scope of the order:
The FDA will award three Commissioner’s National Priority Vouchers to psychedelic candidates within one week. These vouchers reduce new drug application review timelines from 10 to 12 months to just 1 to 2 months.
ADVERTISEMENTThe order instructs the Attorney General to initiate rescheduling reviews earlier in the development process, potentially eliminating three months of post-approval delays.
ARPA-H will draw $50 million in matching funds from its existing $100 million EVIDENT mental health initiative for states’ psychedelics research investments.
FDA Commissioner Marty Makary put it plainly: drugs aligned with national priorities can now get approved “in weeks, not a year or a year plus.”
Bryan Hubbard, CEO of Americans for Ibogaine, declared at the ceremony that “federal prohibition of psychedelic medicine in America is over.” Strong words. But based on what the President just signed, it’s hard to argue with him.
This is what happens when you have a President who actually listens, actually acts, and actually cares about the people who sacrificed everything for this country. No more red tape for treatments that work. No more bureaucratic delays while veterans suffer.
