President Trump spoke to the nation yesterday, surprising many when he implored citizens to wear a mask, whether they like it or not.

On Monday, President Trump tweeted a photo of himself wearing a mask, saying: “Many people say that it is patriotic to wear a face mask when you can’t socially distance. There is nobody more patriotic than me, your favorite President!,” In his tweet, Trump correctly identified COVID-19 as the “Invisible China Virus.”

On July 11, President Trump was seen visiting wounded soldiers at Walter Reed hospital in Bethesda, Md., while wearing a custom black mask bearing the presidential seal.

Yesterday, in his address to the American public, President Trump explained that many young people don’t have any symptoms related to COVID-19 and how elderly Americans are most at risk of becoming seriously ill or dying from COVID19. He implored Americans to wear a mask to protect the vulnerable in our population, “When you are not able to socially distance, wear a mask, get a mask. Whether you like the mask or not, they have an impact, they’ll have an effect—and we need everything we can get.”

President Trump also explained that while the number of COVID19 cases is increasing, the number of deaths related to COVID19 is down.

Will Trump supporters who don’t believe the mask works heed his warning, or will they ignore his request?
