Ron DeSantis’s super PAC ‘Never Back Down’ has canceled all its television ad reservations in Iowa and New Hampshire, totaling $2.5 million.

Never Back Down will pass the buck in Iowa and New Hampshire to ‘Fight Right,’ another pro-DeSantis group.

According to Just the News, Fight Right spokesperson Taryn Fenski said the group intends to spend $2.5 million before the quickly approaching Iowa Caucus.

DeSantis trails Donald Trump by over 30 points in Iowa, according to polling averages reported by RealClearPolling.

“Never Back Down is laser focused on its core mission – running the most advanced grassroots and political caucus operation in this race and helping deliver the GOP nomination for Governor DeSantis who will deliver America from the disastrous policies of the Left,” Scott Wagner, Chairman of Never Back Down, said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to have Fight Right and others covering the air for Governor DeSantis while we work the ground game in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and beyond,” he added.

Just the News reports:

The super PAC has faced significant difficulties in recent months amid the governor’s falling poll numbers. CEO Chris Jankowski stepped down in November and was later followed by campaign strategist Jeff Roe in December.

AdImpact Politics first reported the ad cancellations, which Never Back Down Chairman Scott Wagner later confirmed to The Hill.

“I cannot in good conscience stay affiliated with Never Back Down given the statements in the Washington Post today. They are not true and an unwanted distraction at a critical time for Governor DeSantis,” Roe said in a statement posted to X.

“I am resigning my position effective immediately. Governor DeSantis has been an exceptional governor and I hope he will be the 47th President of the United States,” he added.

The Messenger added:

Canceling ad buys is historically a sign that a candidate expects to underperform in a state, and DeSantis trails former President Donald Trump badly in both New Hampshire and Iowa.

However, Taryn Fenske, DeSantis’ Communications Director with Fight Right, a group supporting DeSantis, told The Messenger that they are taking over media ads, while Never Back Down (NBD) handles campaigning from the ground.

“Fight Right is leading the charge to inform voters about the candidates in the race; that’s been the goal since its creation,” Fenske said in a text message to The Messenger. “We’ve been on the air, while NBD has been focusing on the historical ground game. Safe to say we’re the Air Force to their Army.”
