Hundreds of protesters have stormed Trump Tower in New York City.

The protesters gathered in Trump Tower to protest Mahmoud Khalil, a U.S. resident with a green card, who was recently detained for his participation in an anti-Israel protest at Columbia University.

The protesters chanted, “Free Mahmoud, Free Palestine” and “Fight Nazis Not Students.”

The protesters, many dressed in red, held signs reading “Free Mahmoud, Free Palestine” and “Fight Nazis Not Students.” The protesters were also chanting the common “Free, free Palestine” slogan.

After occupying the lobby area – the same area where President Donald Trump launched his 2016 presidential campaign – the NYPD began detaining several of them and hauled multiple demonstrators out of the building in zip ties.

Per Fox 5 NY:

Hundreds of protesters gathered both inside and around Trump Tower in Midtown, with dozens arrested in a show of solidarity for Mahmoud Khalil.

Mahmoud Khalil, a U.S. resident, was arrested in New York Saturday and transferred to an immigration detention center in Louisiana.

The group claiming credit for the demonstration, “Jewish Voice for Peace”, explained on Instagram that the event was in protest of the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil.

“The Trump administration thinks it can crush dissent and strip away constitutional rights. We know this playbook. We refuse to allow our neighbors to be abducted in our name,” the post states. “As Jews, we are taking over the Trump Tower to register our mass refusal.”
