Rapper M.I.A. has been around for a while with a fanbase that spans generations.

But she says all it took was holding the wrong opinion in 2026 to essentially see her prospects in the entertainment industry dry up.

As the Daily Caller reported, the self-described cancelation came in response to her remarks in opposition to illegal immigration during a concert performance on a tour with fellow artist Kid Cudi:

M.I.A. was one of the openers for Cudi’s tour until a viral May 2 moment in Dallas at the Dos Equis Pavilion triggered backlash among some fans. The singer was booed after her monologue, which included what some called politically-charged content.

“I’ve been canceled for many reasons. I never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter,” she said.

Cudi clapped back by immediately terminating her from the tour, putting an end to all her scheduled appearances with his camp.

The dispute has fueled some discussion and speculation on social media, where many users have expressed sympathy for M.I.A. and sharp criticism of Kid Cudi:

Page Six also reported on the recent development:

“TOUR UPDATE: M.I.A is no longer on this tour,” the “Day ‘n’ Nite” rapper — born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi — wrote on his Instagram Stories Monday.

“I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, cuz I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood,” Cudi added.

The Grammy winner, 42, said he was “flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants” following their last couple of concerts.

It’s worth noting that M.I.A. is hardly alone among rappers in general, with several high-profile artists expressing some level of support for the Trump administration.

Nicki Minaj has become one of the most vocal examples, as this video reveals:
