After denying a divorce was imminent, Rep. Ilhan Omar is divorcing and blaming everyone but herself for the split.
Rep. Ilhan Omar filed for divorce last Friday from her second husband. She filed in Minnesota on her 37th birthday from Ahmed Hirsi. He is the father of her three children.
The claim in the divorce is that the marriage is “irretrievable” because of the allegations Omar had an affair with political consultant Tim Mynett.
Mynett and his wife separated in April after he admitted to a romantic affair with Ilhan Omar. Documents in the divorce say that his frequent travel with Omar as a political consultant caused her suspicions. Mynett was also paid a large sum of money from Omar’s campaign.
The New York Post reports that documents state that “Defendant met Rep. Omar while working for her. Although devastated by the betrayal and deceit that preceded his abrupt declaration, Plaintiff told Defendant that she loved him, and was willing to fight for the marriage. Defendant, however, told her that was not an option for him.”
In a strange turn of events, Rep. Ilhan Omar is blaming the media and her political opponents for the split with her husband. In a statement from her lawyer, Omar blamed everyone but herself:
“Ilhan and Ahmed have been the object of speculation and innuendo from political opponents and the media. This has taken a significant toll on Ilhan, Ahmed, and their three children. As with all marriages, this is intensely personal and a difficult time for their family. Just like any other family navigating this kind of transition, Ilhan wishes to have their privacy respected for themselves and their children and will not be commenting any further.”
