According to Breitbart News – Democrats in the state of New York may soon give illegal aliens the ability to automatically register to vote when they apply for a driver’s licenses at any state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office.
Reports have circulated that Democrats in the New York State Senate are looking this year to quickly pass a new law that automatically registers New York residents to vote in elections so long as they obtain a state-issued driver’s license.
Those licenses, available at DMVs, are now provided to all eligible New York residents — including illegal aliens.
Last year, Democrats sought to give automatic voter registration to all illegal aliens who obtained driver’s licenses with the state’s new law that allows the illegal population to legally drive.
Currently, in New York, American citizens only need a driver’s license to register to vote, and although applicants are required to swear that they are eligible to vote, state election officials have previously admitted that “it’s basically an honor system.”
In June of last year, New York Republicans warned Breitbart News that the ultimate goal of Democrats in the state is to register all noncitizens and illegal aliens to vote in state and federal elections.
Giving illegal aliens a pathway to voting in American elections isn’t a new concept. In 1995, Michigan issued driver’s licenses to “undocumented immigrants.” At that time, any person who obtained a driver’s license in the state of Michigan was automatically registered to vote.
In 1970, Democrat Richard Austin became Michigan’s first African-American secretary of state. He was first in the United States to create a program that allowed people to register to vote when they obtained a driver’s license.
In 1995, Attorney General Frank Kelly, a Democrat, issued an opinion saying that the State of Michigan could grant driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.
From 1995- 2007, illegal aliens in Michigan could register to vote upon obtaining a driver’s license.
In April 2017, Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske issued a letter to the Director of the DMV to cease and desist registering non-citizens to vote.
Cegavske went on to accuse the DMV of facilitating voter fraud. Cegavske, in the letter, accused DMV workers of knowingly and illegally registering green card holders to vote. Green card holders are non-citizens in the country legally with a visa. But only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote in U.S. elections. Cegavscke then claimed around eleven illegal aliens may have voted in the general election and her office is continuing her investigation.
In July 2018, Breitbart News reported that a Rasmussen poll revealed that 54% of Democrats support giving illegal aliens the right to vote.
Likewise, 53 percent of self-described liberal voters said they too support giving the 12 million illegal aliens in the U.S. the right to vote.
While the majority of Democrats support illegal aliens having the right to vote, the plan is very unpopular with American voters overall. Nearly 60 percent of voters said illegal aliens should not be given voting rights.
Already, as Breitbart California reported, the city of San Francisco will now allow non-citizens to vote in the area’s regional school board elections. Cities like Chicago, Illinois, and Cambridge, Massachusets also allow non-citizens to vote in regional elections.
Giving the illegal alien population the right to vote would almost ensure Democrat dominance in statewide and national elections, as foreign populations are vastly more likely to favor Democrats over Republicans.
As Breitbart News previously noted, districts with booming foreign-born populations have become Democrat strongholds and the country’s legal immigration system is set to import at least eight million new foreign-born voters in the next two decades.
