The official report from the Committee to Protect Journalists, authored by former Washington Post Executive Editor Leonard Downie Jr. paints a picture of a ‘paranoid’ president who was way harsher on staff and reporters than President Trump.
In fact, in the report a New York Times reporter had this to say about the Obama administration’s treatment of the press:
“This is the most closed, control freak administration I’ve ever covered.”
How ironic that it was Obama who targeted staffers and the media:
The author of the report stated: “The administration’s war on leaks and other efforts to control information are the most aggressive I’ve seen since the Nixon administration, when I was one of the editors involved in the Washington Post’s investigation of Watergate. The 30 experienced Washington journalists at a variety of news organizations whom I interviewed for this report could not remember any precedent.”
“The Insider Threat Program” was the Obama program to stop leaks:
“The Insider Threat Program being implemented throughout the Obama administration to stop leaks…first detailed by the McClatchy newspapers’ Washington bureau in late June—has already ‘created internal surveillance, heightened a degree of paranoia in government and made people conscious of contacts with the public, advocates, and the press,’ said a prominent transparency advocate, Steven Aftergood, director of the Government Secrecy Project at the Federation of American Scientists in Washington.”

The email is from Wikileaks and is an email from Stratfor Firm’s Fred Burton:
On Monday February 27th, 2012, WikiLeaks began publishing The Global Intelligence Files, over five million e-mails from the Texas headquartered “global intelligence” company Stratfor. The e-mails date between July 2004 and late December 2011. They reveal the inner workings of a company that fronts as an intelligence publisher, but provides confidential intelligence services to large corporations, such as Bhopal’s Dow Chemical Co., Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and government agencies, including the US Department of Homeland Security, the US Marines and the US Defence Intelligence Agency. The emails show Stratfor’s web of informers, pay-off structure, payment laundering techniques and psychological methods.
