The Trump campaign says that even though vetting docs have been sent out, the list of potential VP picks is still changing, and that the penultimate decision will be up to Donald Trump, alone.

AP had more details:

Former President Donald Trump ‘s campaign has begun requesting information from his potential vice presidential candidates, sending vetting paperwork to a list of top contenders in recent weeks, according to two people familiar with the effort.

Among those who have received requests are North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, according to one of the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the outreach.

Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik and Trump’s 2016 rival-turned cabinet member Ben Carson were also said to be on the list.

Various levels of paperwork have been exchanged with each, the second person said.

Representatives for the candidates did not immediately respond to requests for comment Wednesday.

Aides have cautioned that Trump’s list is fluid and evolving and that the decision will be up to him.

“Anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump,” Trump campaign spokesperson Brian Hughes said in a statement.

It’s important to note that this list of 7 may not be the only ones to receive vetting materials in the coming days and weeks.

The Daily Wire noted:

Those listed may not be the only ones who have contacted thus far as ABC News reported that “others are likely to be considered for the No. 2 job.” The Associated Press reported that the list is “fluid and evolving,” meaning that it will likely change as Trump sees fit.

A Trump campaign spokesperson said that “anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump.”

Polling last month from an I&I/TIPP Poll indicated that 15% of Republican voters choose Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as their first choice for VP, while 14% choose him as their second choice for VP — both numbers were the highest of all the candidates listed.

Out of the candidates who were listed by the Associated Press, Carson had the highest ranking for first choice in the poll at 5%, followed by Scott at 4%, Rubio at 2%, and the remaining contenders at 1% or less.
