Deputy AG Rosenstein gave a presser today to answer questions about the Mueller indictments of 13 RUSSIAN NATIONALS:
A federal grand jury on Friday indicted 13 Russians and three Russian companies for allegedly interfering in the 2016 presidential election, in a case brought by Special Counsel Robert Mueller that detailed a sophisticated plot to wage “information warfare” against the U.S.
The Russian nationals are accused of setting a “strategic goal to sow discord in the U.S. political system, including the 2016 presidential election.”
While that effort was launched in 2014, by early to mid-2016 the defendants were “supporting the presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald J. Trump … and disparaging Hillary Clinton,” the eight-count indictment charges.
The emphasis was placed on the fact that some Russians used social media to try and influence people BUT… the DOJ made clear that the indictment does not allege that any of the interference changed the outcome of the presidential race.
Other charges were brought but this is a total nothing burger as far as the election and the Trump campaign’s involvement.
To summarize the 13 Russian Indictments: No American was a knowing participant in this scheme and it did not affect the outcome of the election.

An announcement from special counsel Robert Mueller’s office said that the government accuses all the defendants of conspiracy to defraud the United States. Three defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud. Five defendants are charged with aggravated identity theft.

“#Rosenstein repeats no allegation outcome of election was affected. No allegation in this indictment that any American had any knowledge (including in Trump campaign)”
