There’s nothing more Democrats love than citizens who rely on them for their survival. As if free food, housing, health care, and education for all (including non-citizens) isn’t enough, politicians in Oakland, CA, have voted to give every resident $100 in “Democracy Dollars” to be used to help fund the campaign of their favorite political candidate.

Oakland, CA, the largest city in the state, is located in Alameda County. A large majority of the voters in the city of Oakland identify as Democrats. The disparity in the amount of money that’s given by individuals to the Democratic Party versus the Republican Party in Oakland, CA, is stunning.

From 2018-2021, there were 197,751 contributions totaling $31,024,956 to the Democratic Party and liberal campaigns, averaging $157 per contribution.

For the same time period, there were 5,453 contributions totaling $2,240,905 to the Republican Party and conservative campaigns, averaging $411 per contribution. (source: Federal Election Commission)

So, it’s curious why Oakland, California, would find it necessary to take taxpayer money from working (contributing) residents and give it to them to donate to the political campaigns of their choice. Since the Oakland, CA government cannot legally fund Democratic Party candidate’s campaigns, isn’t this simply a money laundering operation?

Fox News reports – “We deserve a government that prioritizes the needs of Oakland residents, rather than wealthy special interests,” Fair Elections Oakland says on its website. “We need to know that our local elected officials are fighting for us—that they’re working to create affordable housing, improve our schools, and keep the streets safe—instead of helping out their wealthy campaign funders.”

Characterized by the San Francisco Chronicle this week as an “under the radar measure,” the bill was supported by 74% of voters in the Nov. 8 election. The Fair Elections Act, placed on the ballot as Measure W, requires the city to send adult residents, including non-U.S. citizens who hold Green Cards, four $25 vouchers every two years to be donated to local political campaigns.
