Senate Chuck Schumer posted a tweet today that inadvertently states President Trump is right and Chief Justice John Roberts is wrong on whether judges are biased.
President Trump had previously tweeted out that judges hold partisan views and in a rare response, Roberts disagreed by saying judges aren’t Republicans or Democrats (see previous report below). Trump tweeted out that the 9th Circuit overturns 79% of cases in favor of Dems.
Schumer’s tweet included an admission that Roberts is, in fact, partisan:
“I don’t agree very often with Chief Justice Roberts, especially his partisan decisions which seem highly political on Citizens United, Janus, and Shelby. But I am thankful today that he—almost alone among Republicans—stood up to President Trump and for an independent judiciary.”

This back and forth started when Trump tweeted about Obama-appointed Judge Jon Tigar of U.S. District Court in Northern California, who ruled against Trump’s proclamation requiring migrants to apply for asylum at legal border crossings and not just anywhere on the border.

Can you believe it? A federal judge just put the rights of non-citizens before the rights of Americans.
The San Francisco judge ruled that the Trump administration cannot enforce the asylum ban. If you guessed that this judge was appointed by Obama, you’re correct.
US District Court Judge Jon S. Tigar, a UC Berkeley law grad, issued a temporary restraining order after hearing arguments from the ACLU and Center for Constitutional Rights. A lawyer for the Center for Constitutional Rights claimed that the non-citizens have a right to claim asylum:
“Individuals are entitled to asylum if they cross between ports of entry. It couldn’t be clearer.”
The Trump administration will challenge this ruling in court. President Trump signed a proclamation banning the caravan members from seeking asylum in an effort to stop the thousands upon thousands of people from who knows where from trying to cross our border. President Trump was trying to do the job that Congress refuses to do.
President Trump’s number one priority is keeping Americans safe and that includes keeping out the estimated 500 plus criminals they’ve identified in the caravan. Don’t Americans have a right to NOT have these people come into our country?

During a conference call with reporters Monday afternoon, homeland security officials said “most of the caravan members are not women and children” and that more than 500 criminals are traveling with the group that has amassed on the other side of a San Diego border crossing.
