The Houston Public Library system is in hot water again for hosting a man who was convicted of “abusing multiple children”. This isn’t the first time this has happened in Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s district.
The lack of screening for participants in the ‘Drag Queen Story Time’ is disturbing because convicted child sex abusers are able to participate in the event. In his case, a background check was allegedly done but it didn’t catch the man’s criminal record because he goes by several names.
If the library had done a more thorough check they would have found that this man “went to jail in 2004 after being convicted of abusing multiple children”.
The Houston Public Library recently hosted William Travis Dees, Fox 26 reports, to read to kids during the Drag Queen Story Time.
He was convicted of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy.
Concerned citizens expressed outrage:
“We knew it. Seek and you shall find. The problem with the city is, they’re not seeking. This group is satanic, they call themselves Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.”
“I think parents should feel outraged. People take their children to programs that have the government stamp of approval on them. They expect that background checks will be done.”
KHOU reported in March:
A registered child sex offender has been reading to children at Houston Public Library as part of its Drag Queen Storytime.
A group called Mass Resistance, which has been trying to put an end to the program, contacted KHOU about the child sex offender.
Mass Resistance claims it had been asking the City of Houston for months to disclose information about the drag queens, and when requests went unanswered, they did their own digging and made the shocking link.
A media spokesperson for the library confirmed one of the program’s drag queens, Tatiana Mala Nina, is Alberto Garza, a 32-year-old child sex offender. In 2008, he was convicted of assaulting an 8-year-old boy.
The library admitted it didn’t do a background check on Garza.
The Houston library system defended the reading program, saying at no time were the drag queens ever “alone” with the children.
