A twin-engine plane carrying five people crashed at Ingalls Field Airport in Bath County, Virginia.

According to WSLS, five people died in the crash.

Officials said the plane crash happened around 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Five people are dead after a plane crashed at Ingalls Field Airport, according to Virginia State Police.

Police said of the five deaths, one was the pilot, another was the first officer, and the three others were passengers. We’re told one of the passengers was a child, likely aged 5-7 years old.

Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board said the Westwind Astra airplane crashed at 3 p.m. Sunday. Upon the crash, the plane was fully engulfed in flames.

According to authorities, the flight originated from another location, and it’s unclear where the plane was traveling to. Jeff Ford, chairman of the Bath County Airport Authority told 10 News that there was an emergency on board, prompting the plane to land at Ingalls before it crashed.

“The Airport Authority believes the plane was attempting to make an emergency landing around 3 p.m.,” 12 On Your Side wrote.

Per ABC News:

The Bath County Sheriff’s Office said its 911 Center received a call about a crash at 2:58 p.m. at Ingalls Field Airport in Hot Springs, Virginia.

The Sheriff’s Department, Virginia State Police, and Hot Springs Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash.
