Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin said “something’s going to happen” when asked about allegations that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) married her brother.

Mullin said there is an “ongoing investigation.”

“We know that she married her brother to try to bring him into the United States. We know he lives now in London,” Mullin said.

Mullin said there’s “possibly some illegal activity” regarding the family’s migration and for them “to come to the United States to begin with.”

“If we actually move a case forward, it’s not a political case. It’s actually a case because they did things wrong,” Mullin explained.

“I don’t make the laws anymore. I’m in charge of enforcing the laws. And I will not pick and choose which laws I’m going to enforce and which laws I’m not. I’m going to enforce all of them regardless of who you are,” he continued.

In 2020, Omar released a statement calling the allegations “absolutely false and ridiculous,” reiterating that “insinuations that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi is my brother are absurd and offensive.”

President Donald Trump weighed in on the allegations late last year. “If that’s true, she shouldn’t be a congressman,” he said definitively. “And we should throw her the h**l out of our country.”

Trump then hinted as recently as last month that she may be the subject of ICE “enforcement proceedings” on account of alleged “fraud.”

Vice President JD Vance also addressed the accusations against Omar back in May and indicated an investigation was underway. “You read the things about Ilhan Omar and about who she married and whether she didn’t marry this person or that person,” Vance said.

“It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody’s entitled to equal justice under the laws, so we’re going to investigate it,” he added. “We’re going to take a look at it. If we think that there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime. And that’s something the Department of Justice is looking at right now.”

“She shouldn’t be in our country. She also calls her brother ‘husband number one.’ Omar is reportedly being investigated for fraud,” Trump previously said.

Abdihakim Osman, a past friend of Omar, told the Mail in 2020 that Omar said she wanted to get her brother papers so he could stay in the United States, at a time when she was married to her first husband Ahmed Hirsi.

But hardly anyone realized that meant marrying him.

‘No one knew there had been a wedding until the media turned up the marriage certificate years later,’ Osman exclusively told DailyMail.com at the time.

Omar married her first husband, Hirsi, in 2002 in a Muslim ceremony that, like many in the immigrant community, was not registered with the state.

The first report that Omar and her husband were siblings appeared on the website Somalispot in 2016.

It said of Elmi: ‘As soon as Ilhan Omar married him he started university at her alma mater North Dakota State University where he graduated in 2012.’
