President Trump has won another big Supreme Court case.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that the Trump administration can continue its immigration stops in California in an attempt to detain illegal immigrants.
The Supreme Court overturned a lower court’s decision that temporarily prevented ICE agents from stopping people based on their race and language.

Newsweek reported more on the Supreme Court’s Ruling:
The Supreme Court handed President Donald Trump’s administration another win on Monday, as it cleared the way to allow sweeping immigration operations in Los Angeles.
ADVERTISEMENTThe court overturned a judge’s restraining order which prevented federal agents from stopping people solely based on their race, language, job or location.
The lawsuit, filed by immigrant advocacy groups, had argued that, “Numerous U.S. citizens and others who are lawfully present in this country have been subjected to significant intrusions on their liberty,” by the “roving” Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) patrols. Lawyers for the plaintiffs argued that their restraining order only prevented federal agents from making stops without reasonable suspicion, in line with the Constitution and Supreme Court precedent.
The Trump administration argued the order prevented ICE agents from carrying out their jobs, saying “threatening agents with sanctions if the court disbelieves that they relied on additional factors in making any particular stop.”
On Monday, the conservative-majority Supreme Court’s ruled 6-3 to overturn U.S. District Judge Maame E. Frimpong’s initial order.

USA Today reported more in-depth details on teh Supreme Court’s decision:
A divided Supreme Court on Sept. 8 said the Trump administration can resume for now the indiscriminate immigration-related stops in Los Angeles that sparked protests and charges of racial profiling.
Over the objections of the three liberal justices, the court blocked a judge’s ruling that federal agents need a reasonable suspicion that the person they’re questioning is in the country illegally.
U.S. District Judge Maame Frimpong of the Central District of California said the government can’t rely solely on the person’s ethnicity, what language they speak, whether they’re at a particular location, such as a pickup site for day laborers, or what type of work they do
Frimpong issued that temporary order in July in response to a class action lawsuit filed by a group of Latinos, including U.S. citizens, caught up in the 2025 ICE raids in Southern California.
ADVERTISEMENTThe administration questioned the legal right of the challengers to sue, and said the judge improperly elevated the Fourth Amendment’s “low bar” for reasonable suspicion for searches and seizures. That means the government isn’t doing anything wrong, the Justice Department said.
In a region where a significant share of residents may be undocumented, the Justice Department told the Supreme Court, “reasonable suspicion to stop suspected illegal aliens will necessarily encompass a reasonable broad profile.”
