A Syrian refugee has been imprisoned for life in Sweden after a video surfaced of him taking part in a cruel mass execution of government troops in Syria.

Haisam Omar Sakhanh, 46, was granted refugee status in Sweden after fighting with Islamist rebels in Syria. He was shown in the video shooting a prisoner with an assault rifle in May of 2012.

Sakhanh confessed to the crime but said he shouldn’t be prosecuted because the death sentences for the prisoners had been made by a legitimate court.  The Swedish court rejected this argument. They also rejected his defense that he had been following orders.
