A seventh grade student at a middle school in Georgia informed his parents that his teacher, Corey Sanders, asked students to create letters addressed to lawmakers urging them to stand up for gun control.

The concerned parent — who clearly understands the importance of the Second Amendment and why it exists — is taking a stand and imploring other parents to “stay vigilant” and keep an eye on what their kids are being taught in school.

Fox News Insider has more:

According to a Blue Lives Matter report, the assignment from seventh-grade teacher Corey Sanders asked students “to pressure lawmakers to have stricter gun laws in the United States.”

William Lee, who is also a police officer, said on “Fox and Friends” Friday that he wouldn’t have found out about the issue had he not asked what his son learned in school.

“My biggest concern was, what was the intent of the assignment? I found out that it didn’t have anything to do with what [the students] were supposed to be learning in that social studies class,” he said.

“It only gave [students] one perspective from which to write. That in itself, I didn’t think was appropriate,” Lee said.

It turns out that the assignment had not been approved by the school district and the matter was addressed with the teacher.

The Henry County School District spoke with Fox News and delivered the following statement:

“The lesson topic was not a part of an approved curriculum. … We would never approve of a politically biased assignment or directive given by a teacher. … We do not condone the actions that transpired. It has been handled appropriately with the teacher to ensure they know this is not acceptable and won’t happen again.”

This is yet another example of how public schools are no longer about learning essential skills necessary to become a fully functioning adult member of society, but have become indoctrination centers for radical progressives.

Had the assignment presented both views and offered kids an opportunity to be either for or against gun control, then obviously the whole point of the lesson would’ve been the importance of being politically active and how you can make your voice heard in the system.

That would’ve been perfectly fine. But no, that’s not the intent of the teacher. The intent of the teacher here was to push a particular agenda and to use children as political pawns to gain an audience for his own views. It’s sickening to say the least.

This is why parents need to stand up and fight to have control over education decentralized and placed back in the hands of state and local government.
