Trump campaign manager Chris LaCivita said Wednesday that “reliable sources confirm” Kamala Harris will choose Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as her running mate.

Reports are circulating that Harris has selected the battleground state governor to join her on the presidential ticket.

However, there is currently no confirmation that Harris chose Shapiro as her running mate.

Mainstream media outlets report Shapiro has emerged as a front-runner for the position.

Per ABC News:

And now he could be bringing his political skills to the White House with sources telling ABC News that Shapiro is a front-runner to become Kamala Harris’ running mate.

Shapiro, 51, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised in Dresher, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 1995.

Shapiro spent years on Capitol Hill working for several Democratic members of Congress, including Sens. Carl Levin and Robert Torricelli. During that time, Shapiro earned a law degree from Georgetown University in 2002.

In 2004, he won election for the 153rd district in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and was reelected three times. In 2011, Shapiro was elected to the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners and remained on the board for five years.

In 2016, Shapiro was elected Pennsylvania’s attorney general. He was reelected in 2020 with over 3.4 million votes.

An op-ed in MSNBC urged Harris to select the Pennsylvania governor as her running mate.

From MSNBC:

Shapiro’s initiatives in Pennsylvania have not only bolstered his popularity but also solidified his standing as a leader capable of bridging partisan divides. His approach to governance emphasizes practical solutions and effective communication, qualities that are increasingly valued in today’s polarized political landscape. Shapiro’s success in navigating complex policy issues — such as labor law enforcement and infrastructure projects — underscores his ability to deliver tangible results while maintaining broad public support.

Shapiro also has a skill the White House desperately needs right now: showcasing government achievements.

As we saw when Shapiro handled the I-95 bridge reconstruction this year, Shapiro knows how to show off the great work the government does. From the moment of destruction to completion, Shapiro documented the rebuild, effectively demonstrating how the government works for its people. This skill is crucial, considering recent polls indicate many voters are unaware of major legislative achievements of the Biden-Harris administration, like the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the CHIPS and Science Act.

Harris needs a political ally who is not only skilled in governance but also adept at communicating these achievements to the public.

Politically, Shapiro brings advantages that could prove vital in securing the 270 electoral votes needed for victory.

In addition, The Guardian reports the three front-runners for Harris’ VP pick include: Shapiro, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ).

All three Democrats were requested to send vetting materials to the Harris campaign.
