On Saturday, the mother of Tyre Nichols, the 29-year-old Black man who was fatally beaten by five Black police officers in Memphis, condemned the officers responsible and said that they had “shamed their own families.”

In an interview with MSNBC, RowVaughn Wells addressed the Black-on-Black crime that killed her son and sent her prayers to the disgraced families of the responsible officers.

“I hate that it was five Black men that actually did this to another Black man. My son probably was their age,” she said.

“They just brought disgrace to themselves,” she continued. “I’m not an evil person, my son is not an evil person… I pray for [the officers’] families because their families didn’t deserve any of this either.”

Wells, who was very close with her son, has chosen to view his death as an “assignment from God.”

“I believe in my heart that my son was on assignment from God,” said Wells. “He finished his assignment and God took him back home.”

“And that is what keeps me going to get this justice for my son,” she added. “Because I’m not going to stop until every person that had anything to do with my son’s death is prosecuted to the fullest of the law.”

“I hate to think that us as Black people, we’re out here killing each other,” said Wells at a press conference on Friday with attorney Ben Crump. “For what? I don’t know why. We have the police killing us… I just don’t understand why we have to have all this violence and everybody have to kill each other.”

“What happened to this world? Everybody wants to kill each other… What happened to the humanity and kindness?”

Joe Biden, along with other Democratic lawmakers and Left-wing activists, has continued to tie the beating to racial issues.

“Like so many, I was outraged and deeply pained to see the horrific video of the beating that resulted in Tyre Nichols’ death,” said Biden. “It is yet another painful reminder of the profound fear and trauma, the pain, and the exhaustion that Black and Brown Americans experience every single day.”

All five officers have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, among other charges.
