A U.S. Capitol doctor ‘medically cleared’ Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to continue working one day after having another ‘freezing’ episode.

Brian Monahan, the attending physician for the U.S. Capitol, said he “conferred” with the 81-year-old senator’s neurology team and determined that “he is medically clear to continue with his schedule as planned.”

“I have consulted with Leader McConnell and conferred with his neurology team. After evaluating yesterday’s incident, I have informed Leader McConnell that he is medically clear to continue with his schedule as planned. Occasional lightheadedness is not uncommon in concussion recovery and can also be expected as a result of dehydration,” Monahan said in a statement.

NBC News reports:

The statement released by his office is the first time McConnell’s team has acknowledged that the staring spells McConnell has been dealing with could be attributed to lingering effects from his fall and concussion in March that sidelined him for nearly six weeks.

After the fall at a Washington hotel, McConnell had other health episodes. NBC News reported that on July 14, McConnell, a polio survivor who has struggled to navigate stairs and other obstacles, fell disembarking from a plane at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. He was not seriously hurt.

But later that month, McConnell stunned reporters, Senate colleagues and aides when he froze up at his weekly leadership news conference for nearly 20 seconds in front of the TV cameras.

It happened again Wednesday at an event in Covington, Kentucky, where McConnell appeared unable to speak for roughly 30 seconds after a reporter asked him if he planned to run for re-election in 2026.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said Senator Mitch McConnell is “not fit for office” after the 81-year-old legislator froze during a Wednesday press conference.

Congresswoman Says Mitch McConnell and Others “Not Fit For Office”

“Severe aging health issues and/or mental health incompetence in our nation’s leaders MUST be addressed. Biden, McConnell, Feinstein, and Fetterman are examples of people who are not fit for office and it’s time to be serious about it,” Greene said.

“These politician’s staff and family members should be ashamed of themselves by enabling and allowing their loved ones to remain in office all to hold power. We are talking about our country’s national security and it’s all at stake! 25th amendment and other measures need to be on the table,” she added.

McConnell has faced relentless calls to retire, even before Wednesday’s episode.
