Before anyone takes a word of John Bolton’s new book seriously, they should be reminded that Bolton refused to testify under oath without a subpoena and that Democrats didn’t want to subpoena him because, without lying, he had nothing.
John Bolton is all over the place trying to make a buck promoting a new book about his time in the Trump administration. Of course, it’s got to have some ‘red meat’ to sell, so Bolton has sold his soul by saying things that are being refuted right and left.
The latest to deny what Bolton is claiming is Robert Lighthizer. Leave it to a Democrat to push this false narrative from Bolton’s salacious memoir in a Senate Finance Committee hearing:
New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez asked U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer (pictured below) during a Senate Finance Committee hearing if President Trump asked Chinese President Xi Jinping in June 2019 for help in the 2020 presidential election.
“Absolutely untrue, never happened. I was there, I have no recollection of that ever happening. I don’t believe it’s true; I don’t believe it ever happened,”
The Wall Street Journal published an excerpt from Bolton’s book in which Bolton claimed the president pleaded with Xi to ensure he’d win the 2020 election.
Lighthizer went on to say:
“Would I have recollected something as crazy as that? Of course, I would.”
