Last night, the 27-year-old outspoken UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell defeated his opponent Edson Barboza.

Before his big fight, the media asked about his political positions on several topics, but his response on the topic of the Ukrainian-Russia conflict is what’s getting a lot of attention.

The UFC lightweight with a degree in Economics told the media he has no interest in going to war to fight on behalf of politically corrupt leaders but explained, “If the war comes to Arkansas, I will dig my boot in the ground, and I will die for everything I love. And I will not retreat.”

”I’m not going nowhere to fight any war for any of these politicians,” he said. Mitchell continued, “You’ve got Biden & his son making a shit ton of money off of—and using our tax dollars to bribe their [Ukrainian] people. That’s treasonous, in my opinion. He shouldn’t be giving our tax dollars to that anyways. We’ve got veterans sleeping on the streets, and you’re gonna give our frickin tax dollars to another country?”

Sports Illustrated shared the full-length video of the interview with Mitchell – “There was some wise dude way back in the day – it was either Socrates or Plato or Hippocrates or somebody, but he said, ’If you do not partake in your government, you will be ruled by people who are stupider than you,’” Mitchell said. “That’s what he said. Now it was give or take a couple of words. It was paraphrased, but if we the people do not choose and are not active in conversations about what’s going on in our government, well, then these idiots are going to control everything we do, and we won’t have a say in it.”

“So, yeah, I’m political because these people control me, and then you want to tell me that I can’t talk and I have to shut up and fight, and I can’t talk about – no, I’m controlled completely by the government. I’m controlled completely by the value of the dollar because I get paid in dollars, OK? I don’t get paid in pure gold. I get paid in dollars, and so in my opinion, I have a say about political issues.” Watch the interview in its entirety here.

Mitchell is also a Christian with a huge heart.

Watch Mitchell’s response when he’s asked about the conversation he had with his opponent after the fight and about donating half of his earnings to charity:

While the media pretends to care about Mitchell losing fans over his conservative views, social media users praise him for his courage and for saying the things that need to be said.
