Harry Kane recently traveled to the United States for some of the highest-stakes soccer of his professional career.
But for England’s team captain, it was a different sport entirely that left a lasting impression on him during a previous trip to America.
As the New York Post reported, President Donald Trump invited Kane to join him on the golf links about a year and a half ago, and the soccer star was gracious in his depiction of the experience:
“He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. When the President invites you somewhere, it was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and to play golf with him,” Kane said Friday. “His golf is pretty good to be honest with you. I hope I can play as well as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure.
“Unique experience. Grateful he invited me down to play with him.”
ADVERTISEMENTKane said he played “pretty alright” during their round together, and his confirmation of the golf outing comes after Trump praised him multiple times in recent days.
President Trump first posted to social media about the 32-year-old after the England star led his team past Mexico 3-2 in Mexico City in the Round of 16 last Sunday.
The apparent mutual respect between Trump and Kane has fueled some social media discussion as the US hosts the World Cup:
Kane giving a nice nod to Trump's swing. Guess that means he actually has some game, not just political clout.

That's definitely a unique pairing. Golf has a way of bringing together people from very different worlds. ⛳

Only those with TDS would see this as anything other than a great opportunity for Kane to spend a little time with the U.S., President.
Probably a once in a lifetime opportunity.— Steven Kerwin (@StevenKerwin) July 11, 2026
Here’s some additional coverage, via the BBC:
The US is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup along with Canada and Mexico, and Kane’s comments followed Trump, 80, saying the pair had played together.
“I think Kane is a great player,” said Trump after Kane, who has six goals and one assist for England at the World Cup, helped the Three Lions beat Mexico 3-2 in the last 16.
“I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer too. He’s really great.”
And here’s a clip of what Trump had to say about the experience:
