It turns out Barron Trump, President Trump’s youngest son, will not serve as an at-large delegate at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

Barron Trump Reportedly To Enter Politics At Republican National Convention

Trump will decline the offer due to ‘prior commitments.’

“While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” Melania Trump’s office said in a statement, according to The Hill.

Per The Hill:

The Florida GOP earlier this week said Barron Trump, who is 18, would join three of the former president’s other children — Eric, Tiffany and Donald Trump Jr. — as delegates, with Eric Trump serving as the state’s delegation chair.

It would have marked Barron Trump’s first foray into politics in the public spotlight. The Republican convention will take place in Milwaukee, Wis., in mid-July.

Just the News reports:

The former president has touted his youngest son as “a smart one,” who sometimes advises him on politics. Barron Trump is now 18, and will be graduating high school next week.

The national convention will take place from July 15 through July 18.

“He’s a little on the tall side. I will tell you, he’s a tall one, but he is a good-looking guy. And he’s really been a great student. And he does like politics. It’s sort of funny,” Donald Trump said in an interview.

“He’ll tell me sometimes, ‘Dad, this is what you have to do.’ So anyway, he’s a good guy. He’s a senior now in high school, and he’ll be going to college. And you know, a lot of, a lot of these choices of colleges are changing because you see what’s going on in the last month,” he added.

USA TODAY noted:

The Republican Party of Florida announced on Thursday it had selected Barron as an at-large delegate, a part of the state’s 125-member delegation. Other family members – including Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump – are also delegates, and Eric Trump is the chair of Florida’s delegation.

Trump’s ongoing hush money trial will recess next Friday so that the former president can attend his son’s high school graduation ceremony.
