Baseball great Johnny Damon weighed in on Baltimore and what President Trump had to say about the city. Damon said toward the end of his baseball career; the team was afraid to go out in the city of Baltimore.

President Trump was called a “racist” for also telling the truth about the situation in Baltimore. He tweeted out slamming Rep. Elijah Cummings, and how he should fix the city he represents instead of complaining about the conditions on the southern border:

Rep. Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA…As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat, and rodent-infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.

Damon told TMZ Sports he agrees with President Trump:

“He’s not wrong. Baltimore was one of the best places to visit when I broke into the league in ’95. And, at the end, we didn’t really, like, enjoy going back…Towards the end, it started getting a little scarier.”

Damon thinks the comments from Trump will help the city because they will spark a change:

“I think Baltimore is a great town, and this is raising awareness, and hopefully they can go in and spend the hard tax-paying dollars to actually make a difference.”

President Trump said earlier this week that he feels his words were appreciated by the “African-American population in Baltimore:

“Those people are living in hell in Baltimore. They’re largely African-American…you have a large African-American population…and they really appreciate what I’m doing and they’ve let me know it.”

The former Yankee is a big supporter of the president.
