Football great Herschel Walker delivered a winning speech last night on the first night of the Republican convention. It wasn’t one of those boilerplate stump speeches but was a heartfelt tribute to his friend of 37 years who happens to be President of the United States.

Herschel and President Trump have been friends for decades, so he knows the president like few others. The best lines of the speech were when Walker compared President Trump’s style to football:

“He leaves nothing on the field. Some people don’t like his style, the way he knocks down obstacles that get in the way of his goals. People on opposing teams didn’t like it when I ran right over them either. But that’s how you get the job done.”

He praised President Trump as a “caring, loving father” and defended his record on race, saying people who think Trump is a racist “don’t know what they are talking about.”

“I’ve seen racism up close … And it isn’t Donald Trump.”

This was fantastic!
