Trump’s possible picks include judges Amy Coney Barret and Barbar Lagoa.
Judge Amy Coney Barret:
Judge Barret presides over the 7th Circuit Court in Chicago, IL. She is a strong Catholic who clercked for former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia after graduating law school at Notre Dame. If appointed she would be the youngest justice on the bench.
Judge Barbara Lagoa:
Judge Lagoa presides over the 11th Circuit Court in Atlanta, GA. In 2019, Lagoa became the first Hispanic woman on the Florida Supreme Court, after Governor Ron DeSantis appointed her to the court during his first time serving as Governor of Florida. She went to law school at Columbia University in 1992. Most importantly, in her speech accepting her appointment to the 11th Circut, Judge Lagoa said:
“It is the role of judges to apply, not to alter, the work of the people’s representatives.“
