Carjackings by teenagers in Washington, D.C, have skyrocketed in recent months. The problem gained national attention recently when two teen girls carjacked a man who died on the scene when his car crashed after being tased by the teens (see below). In a plea deal, D.C. authorities gave the two teen girls a slap on the hand for the murder of the man. The authorities have gone soft on the carjackings, even making excuses for why the teens commit the crimes, blaming it on boredom (see below). Have authorities in D.C. incentivized carjackings by going easy on teens who commit the crime?

Now, a video has been released of another frightening carjacking by two 15-year-olds from D.C. from earlier this month. A woman parked her car at a gas station next to the air pump on the morning of June 16th. As she got out to go around and put money into the machine, a suspect jumps into her car and drives off with her toddler in the backseat.

A witness to the carjacking followed the car and told police the car stopped to pick up a second suspect. The two suspects eventually abandoned the car and ran. They were captured by police later.

The Montgomery County police have charged two 15-year-old males from Northeast, Washington, D.C., with auto theft and kidnapping-related offenses.

OUR PREVIOUS REPORT ON THE HORRIFIC CARJACKING IN D.C. THAT MADE NATIONAL NEWS:

After a plea deal, a D.C. carjacker who happens to be underage is going to jail. There had been doubt (see below) the carjackers would serve time at all. Comments from officials in D.C. (see below) were shocking because they insinuated that the girls would not be severely punished for what they did:

“The 15-year-old would not be charged as an adult. You know, obviously, this is a tragic case, and, you know, charging this person as an adult [who’s] a juvenile … does not bring back the lost loved one in this case.” – Acting D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee III

The 13-year-old girl who was involved in the senseless killing of UberEats driver Mohammad Anwar (pictured below), 66, a Pakistani immigrant and grandfather accepted a plea deal and will be jailed until she’s 21. Her accomplice is just 15-years-old. The girls are both charged with second-degree murder while armed.

Acting D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee III gave some disturbing answers to questions regarding the carjacking by two teen girls who murdered an Uber-Eats driver. The videos from the crime showed the brazen way in which the girls carjacked the driver and then sped off with him hanging from the car. When the car finally came to a stop, the man was flung onto the sidewalk where he lay dying. The girls did nothing to render aid but were more concerned with finding a cell phone (see our complete report below).

Instead of deterrents to crimes, the DC police force is now acting as a protector of murderous thug teen criminals who should be tried as adults. Is this why teen carjackings have skyrocketed in DC? If there is no punishment for the crime, these teens will continue to carjack innocent people.

Contee was asked if he believed the 15-year-old girl should be tried as an adult for her alleged crime, to which Contee replied:

“The 15-year-old would not be charged as an adult. You know, obviously, this is a tragic case, and, you know, charging this person as an adult [who’s] a juvenile … does not bring back the lost loved one in this case. And certainly, again, the 15-year-old would not be eligible as a Title 16 case. You know, and it’s not really pointing fingers at anyone – the courts or anyone.”

Fox’s D.C. affiliate asked the Acting Police chief about the 13-year-old girl’s alleged involvement in a separate carjacking in January:

“That’s one of many. We have one for that particular – one of the individuals involved, but there are several carjackings that we have had so far this year where we’re seeing individuals that are involved in multiple, multiple cases. So clearly, I think that speaks to us really examining, as a community, the accountability that’s in place. You know, how is it that someone is charged with carjacking or is responsible for carjacking commits another carjacking and another carjacking? I think it’s the larger issue than just this one particular case.”

OUR PREVIOUS REPORT ON THE CARJACKING BY TWO TEENS:

A recent carjacking in Washington, D.C., attracted national attention because the carjackers who are 13 and 15-years-old were caught on video during and immediately after the crime. There was outrage by many who watched the video and saw that as the Uber-eats driver lay dying close by, the girls were more interested in finding a cell phone.

According to the Daily Mail, the two teens just reached a shocking plea deal even though one of the teens is a suspect in another carjacking from January. The prosecutor ensured ‘they will not be held past the age of 21 nor be placed in a prison facility.’

If the tables were turned, there would be riots in D.C.

According to The Washington Post, the teen’s lawyer Bonnie Lindemann did not indicate that her office would try to transfer the 15-year-old’s case to adult court. Under D.C. law, the 13-year-old could not be prosecuted as an adult due to her age.

A D.C. Criminal Defense Lawyer spoke with Fox5DC to explain why the girls will not be punished:

“How old that juvenile is, whether they’ve been juvenilely adjudicated previously. Whether they’ve – whether there’s a gun used in this case. In this case there’s no firearm, it was a stun gun. So there’s lots of determinations. there’s lots of factors to be considered for the Attorney General and then the judge to make the decision that a person is better charged as an adult than a juvenile.”

The bottom line is the “D.C. court operates under the presumption that a juvenile can be rehabilitated in ways the adult system may not be able to support.”

OUR PREVIOUS REPORT ON THE CARJACKING:

Two teen girls, ages 15 and 13, are in custody and face murder charges over UberEats driver Mohammad Anwar’s death. The 66-year-old immigrated from Pakistan and has three children. His family says he came to America to make a better life for his family.

Washington, DC, and the nation have seen carjackings skyrocket (see report below). What’s more disturbing is teens are doing carjackings. DC authorities weighed in recently, blaming the lockdown (see below) and virtual classrooms for the need to commit a crime.

DC Police report that the two girls planned to carjack someone, but it’s unclear why they chose Mr. Anwar. Their weapon for the crime was a stun-gun.

Navy Yard Metro station was where Mr. Anwar picked up the two girls. According to eyewitnesses, he drove to Nationals Park, where an argument and then a struggle between the girls and the man happened. The DC Police believe Mr. Anwar had left the Honda but was wedged between the door and the driver’s seat when the girls allegedly put the car in gear. The car moved forward with Mr. Anwar holding on, and he was eventually ejected from the car. In the video below, the girls can be seen being pulled out of the car that turned on its side when it came to a stop.

This is not fun and games anymore. The New York Post reports the teens are charged with felony murder and armed carjacking.

“Anwar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who always provided a smile when you needed one. He leaves behind a family, near and far, who cherish, love, and miss him dearly. Words can not describe how our family is feeling currently.”

OUR PREVIOUS REPORT ON THE SKYROCKETING CARJACKINGS AND THE POOR EXCUSE FOR THE CRIME:

A 12-year old and an accomplice attempted to carjack four different drivers in the DC area, and the DC police are saying it’s because the kids aren’t in school. There are millions of kids not in school, but they don’t go out and carjack people. Making excuses for thuggish behavior from a 12-year old only invites more bad behavior. The incident is part of a rise in carjackings across America but is it just “idle time”?

The two carjackers threatened all four victims with a gun. The first three attempts were unsuccessful, but when they pulled the gun on their fourth victim, she got out of her car. They drove away in the victim’s car, but the 12-year old was soon apprehended. The second suspect has not been apprehended.

The DC area has seen carjackings skyrocket, and the criminals are getting younger. The reasons given by police are two-fold. They say kids have too much “idle time” and that people are going through hard times during the pandemic.

According to FOX5DC, local police officials have suggested that schools, many of which have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, have suggested that kids are more prone to have idle time without the focus provided by schools.

“I can just say that when you have people out of school with a lot more time on their hands, I think that’s a large part of it,” said Detective Sargent Rob Grims, who also mentioned the financial hardship many families are going through in this pandemic.

The excuses given by authorities are laughable. The kids need consequences for their crimes and NOT excuses.

Another DC official said, “Young people need to be engaged; that’s just the bottom line. They need to be engaged in proactive developmental activities with caring adults; that’s what school is. It’s certainly a factor.”
