Rep. Rashida Tlaib made an appearance at the Detroit Real Time Crime Center with Police Chief James Craig discussing facial recognition software and said this during the meeting:

“Analysts need to be African-Americans …I think non-African-Americans think African Americans look the same.”

“I’ve seen it even on the House floor: People calling Elijah Cummings ‘John Lewis,’ and John Lewis ‘Elijah Cummings,’ and they’re totally different people. I see it all the time, and I love them because they go along with it.”

The Detroit Police Chief came back at her with the fact that there shouldn’t be discrimination:

“I trust people who are trained, regardless of race, regardless of gender. It’s about the training.”

Tlaib tweeted before this meeting that she objects to the new facial recognition technology, so Chief Craig invited her to meet.
