Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) suggested on Thursday that President Trump should receive the Nobel Peace Prize if the peace plan between Israel and Hamas “sticks.”
“Do you think the president deserves a Nobel Peace Prize?” Fetterman was asked.
“I mean, if this sticks, I think the whole point of having a Nobel Peace Prize is for ending wars and promoting peace,” Fetterman answered.
“And I’m going to make a direct appeal to the president, you know, I hope he chooses to provide the Tomahawks to the Ukrainians too, and give them the tools that they need to push back against the [Russians],” Fetterman continued.
“And if he brings the Ukrainian war to its end, I will be the Democrat leading the committee for his Nobel Prize,” he added.

More from The Hill:
On Wednesday, President Trump announced a ceasefire had been reached between Israel and Hamas, paving the way for the freedom of 20 living hostages and relief for the approximately 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. Since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages during the assault, more than 67,000 Palestinians have died, according to Gaza Health Ministry statistics reported by The Associated Press.
The war has also caused infrastructure devastation and a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, leading to increasing pressure on Israel from the international community to end the conflict.
The president said the two sides backed “the first Phase” of a peace plan he announced in late September, an important step in the process.
“This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
A top Hamas leader announced they had reached a deal for a ceasefire.

Al Jazeera noted:
Israel’s government has confirmed signing the final draft of an agreement on phase one of a ceasefire deal with Hamas aimed at ending the Israeli war on Gaza, which has killed more than 67,190 Palestinians in two years.
Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian told reporters on Thursday that the signing took place earlier that morning in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh, following three days of intensive negotiations in the city.
An Israeli security cabinet meeting to approve the deal began later on Thursday, according to local media reports, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expected to have enough votes to approve the plan.
The agreement – covering the first phase of United States President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war – calls for the release of the 48 remaining Israeli captives in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be alive, within 72 hours of the deal being finalised, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. It also requires Israel to pull back its troops to “an agreed-upon line”, according to Trump.
