Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) received significant pushback from the far-left wing of his party after supporting a continuing resolution to fund the federal government earlier this month.
The rift has led to widespread speculation about the future of the Democratic Party and its leadership.
While U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), one of Schumer’s most vocal critics, has been named as a possible primary challenger, one prominent member of the party recently offered a stark warning against such a pursuit.

Former Clinton pollster Mark Penn warned Thursday that Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez challenging Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer in 2028 could deal a devastating blow to the Democratic Party.
ADVERTISEMENTThe Democratic Party’s favorability plunged to a record low of 29%, according to a Sunday CNN/SSRS poll conducted March 6-9. Penn, on “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” said the poll indicates that the Democratic Party has retained its “left base” while “moderates” are fleeing in droves.
“I don’t think she’s going to challenge Schumer, but if she does, I mean, already the Democratic ratings are down to 29%. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Penn said. “That means the left base is with the Democratic Party and the moderates are all leaving the party. So AOC taking off Schumer, wow, that could finish this party off. This could put it into the wilderness the way the Labour Party was for a decade.”
The brewing feud between Schumer and the party’s AOC-aligned flank has been a topic of significant social media discussion in recent days:

Dems are now held in lower esteem than lawyers, undertakers, and car salesmen.
Two punishing new polls released Sunday show that the party has hit historic new lows in approval ratings nationwide — with just 27% of Americans saying they like the job Democrats are doing, according to NBC News.
A CNN poll put favorability at 29% — the lowest rating in the 33-year history of the survey; 54% have an unfavorable view.
And neither of those polls take into account the party’s latest meltdown.
