All Michigan schools have been closed for about two weeks during the coronavirus crisis, so one school principal decided to take matters into her own hands to let a student know she’d received a high honor.

Grand Traverse Academy Principal Michelle Floering wanted to share the great news that was too special to be done virtually.

Traverse City, Michigan high school student Kaitlyn Watson got a big surprise during her job working the drive-thru at fast food restaurant Culvers.

Principal Floering drove up and got the moment on camera:

“Hi Kaitlyn. So, I got you on camera because I want to announce something to you today…You are GTA’s 2020 class valedictorian!”

Watson responded in shock:

“I am? Oh my gosh! Thank you so much.”

There are several thousand known cases of coronavirus in Michigan and 61 deaths reported on Friday.
