In January 2021, Dr. Steven Quay, author of “Stay Safe – A Physician Guide to Survive Coronavirus” is also the author of a published paper entitled, “A Bayesian analysis concludes beyond a reasonable doubt that SARS-CoV-2 is not a natural zoonosis but instead is laboratory-derived.”

Dr. Steven Quay is the founder of Seattle-based Atossa Therapeutics Inc. (Nasdaq: ATOS), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapeutics and delivery methods for breast cancer and other breast conditions.

Dr. Steven Quay

He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from The University of Michigan was a postdoctoral fellow at MIT with Nobel Laureate H. Gobind Khorana, a resident at the Harvard-MGH Hospital, and was on the faculty of Stanford University School of Medicine. His contributions to medicine have been cited over 9,600 times. He has founded six startups, invented seven FDA-approved pharmaceuticals, and holds 87 US patents. Over 80 million people have benefited from the medicines he invented.

Last night, Fox News host Jesse Watters invited Dr. Steven Quay to appear as a guest on his show to discuss the origins of the Omicron, the latest COVID variant that is spreading like wildfire across the world.

Watters asked Dr. Quay about Omicron and the possibility that its origins are tied to one or more labs in South Africa?

“Research suggests, the evidence suggests, that they were doing experiments on mice in a lab in South Africa,” Watters said. He continued, “We don’t know which lab,” asking, “Do we know which lab?”

Dr. Quay responded, “Uh, we do,” he said, adding, “There are actually several laboratories, so we don’t have that final piece of information.”

“They were trying to do experiments, in order to get ahead of the virus—in order to make sure a vaccine would help it—or—and it escaped because that’s what viruses do,” Watters explained to his viewers. “Would this have been ‘gain of function’ research in a South African lab?” he asked.

Dr. Quay responded, “Yeah, it effectively is ‘gain of function'” He explained, “If you’re trying to teach a virus how to get around human antibodies, it’s gaining the function to get around human antibodies. Growing it in mice, it’s gaining the ability to grow in mice. Yeah, so both of those do qualify as ‘gain of function.'”

Watters asked Dr. Quay for confirmation that the Omicron strain is much less deadly than the previous strains of the Wuhan virus. “I guess the good news is that it’s a pretty weak strain. It’s not a mutation as far as we can tell, as far as the research shows. It’s going to wash through and hopefully give the whole country enough immunity that this thing kind of decelerates, and we can turn the page on COVID-19,” a hopeful Watters exclaimed. “Is that your understanding?” he asked.

Dr. Quay confirmed Watters’ theory, “Absolutely. Yeah, so it grows faster than Delta in the nose and the throat. It grows much slower in the lungs. The consequence is is that it is very transmissible—the most transmissible virus we’ve ever seen. But it doesn’t go deep in your lungs, so it’s sort of the white hat perfect virus—if you had to engineer one.”

“Can we just say we’re not going to do gain of function anymore?” Watters asked.

What Is Gain of Function and What Is It Good For?

In simplest terms, Gain of Function is research that attempts to take existing pathogens, such as viruses, and make them more dangerous to humans.

Why would anyone want to do that? Well, here’s the usual explanation: We know that certain kinds of viruses are potentially dangerous to humans if they mutate and jump from animals to people. For example, the original SARS did that in the early 2000s.

Researchers say they are trying to predict which viruses might mutate and how, by actually doing evolution’s work themselves and creating really dangerous viruses; then they study them in the lab to see what they do.

The fact that these research programs exist is not in dispute. Even people who disagree that SARS-CoV-2 was most likely caused by a lab leak acknowledge this. Many reputable scientists consider GoF programs unacceptably dangerous and have been raising the alarm for many years.

Dr. John Campbell, a retired UK doctor who has become a YouTube sensation with his easy-to-understand videos on COVID.  In the video below, Dr. Campbell does an incredible job of explaining Omicron, its mutations, and its origins, including mice as the most likely host, in a video that was posted on YouTube only three days ago and is already approaching one million views.

Yesterday, Dr. Steven Phillips, a Yale-trained, world-renowned expert on zoonotic infections who has treated over 20,000 patients from over 20 countries, tweeted a link to an article that was published Dec. 23, 2021, article titled:

Evidence for a mouse origin of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant

From the article that was published in PubMed.gov:

The rapid accumulation of mutations in the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant that enabled its outbreak raises questions as to whether its proximal origin occurred in humans or another mammalian host.

We found that the Omicron spike protein sequence was subjected to stronger positive selection than that of any reported SARS-CoV-2 variants known to evolve persistently in human hosts, suggesting a possibility of host-jumping. The molecular spectrum of mutations (i.e., the relative frequency of the 12 types of base substitutions) acquired by the progenitor of Omicron was significantly different from the spectrum for viruses that evolved in human patients but resembled the spectra associated with virus evolution in a mouse cellular environment. Furthermore, mutations in the Omicron spike protein significantly overlapped with SARS-CoV-2 mutations known to promote adaptation to mouse hosts, particularly through enhanced spike protein binding affinity for the mouse cell entry receptor. Collectively, our results suggest that the progenitor of Omicron jumped from humans to mice, rapidly accumulated mutations conducive to infecting that host, then jumped back into humans, indicating an inter-species evolutionary trajectory for the Omicron outbreak.

Dr. Phillips tweeted, “Omicron likes mice better—This is a huge genetic leap. One that would result if SARS-Cov2 was studied in mice in the lab.”

He asked, “Was this another gain of function blunder?”

Human Events Senior Editor Jack Posobiec shared a tweet from a social media sleuth, “Billy Bostickson,” who discovered a top South Africa virus lab scrubbed its website a month ago. The tweet includes an archived page from the now-scrubbed website.

While we cannot vouch for its authenticity, this blog post is certainly worth a read. The author of the article, who goes by “eugyppius,” points out that Omicron may have been accidentally leaked from a lab or intentionally in an attempt to develop a self-spreading vaccine to immunize animals or third world populations, which of course, would make sense if it was released in South Africa.

Omicron is Not Normal

Everything suggests this variant was leaked from a laboratory engaged in gain-of-function research.

Omicron is not normal. No immediate progenitors are known; its closest relatives are viruses last seen in early- to mid-2020. The orthodox explanation for this awkward fact is that it has spent the last 18 months lurking “in a geography with poor genomic surveillance … or … in a chronically infected individual.” The simpler explanation is that it leaked from a laboratory.

As el gato malo and others have indicated, evidence is strong that Omicron circulates preferentially in the vaccinated. In all likelihood, it is the result of gain-of-function research, in which SARS-2 was passaged repeatedly through convalescent or vaccinated plasma, in the hopes of helping the virus evade acquired immunity. The purpose of this research would be to anticipate future immune-escape variants that vaccines might target.

Omicron’s ancestors may have spent a significant amount of time adapting to mouse cells, before re-entering human hosts. Omicron appears selected to replicate primarily in the bronchial tract. Deeper in the human lung, it functions far less efficiently than Delta or the first strains from Wuhan. This is probably why it causes mostly mild illness, and it is reminiscent of techniques used to make live attenuated influenza vaccines safer for use in humans. Such vaccines are cold-adapted, that is, selected to circulate primarily in the cooler upper respiratory tract rather than in, the warmer, more vulnerable lungs.

The blog post can be found in its entirety HERE.

If we had an honest mainstream media, this story would be everywhere. Instead of helping the world to understand the Omicron variant and its origins better, it would appear that world leaders would prefer to keep their citizens living in a constant state of fear, where vaccination and lockdowns are the only answer.

In the case of the media misleading Americans, it should be clear by now that the ultimate goal is to help Democrats make the mail-in-voting process that is fraught with fraud a permanent feature of voting for citizens in every state.

Fear is a powerful tool. Watch how quickly Democrat leaders ramp up their efforts this week to push through their “voter rights” bill that would permanently destroy the security of our nation’s elections through Congress before Americans discover the truth about Omicron.

If Republicans were smart, they would be shouting the facts about Omicron from the rooftops…but alas…
