Utah’s Never Trump freshman Republican Senator, Mitt Romney got a surprise today when his staff delivered a birthday cake to his office made of Twinkies.  It isn’t clear if Twinkies are a favorite food of the new U.S. Senator, but the “Twinkie” cake does seem fitting for the failed GOP presidential candidate, who couldn’t find his fight his way out of a paper bag during his run for president against Barack Obama in 2012.

The awkward Romney stood when his staff entered his office with a birthday cake in hand. “Wow! Just what I’ve always wanted,” the beaming Senator told his laughing staff. Romney approached the cake cautiously, asking, “What are you guys gonna have?” It was what he did next that has the internet buzzing. Romney carefully leaned over the cake, saying, “This is fantastic!” and plucked one candle out of the cake, brought it close to his face and then blew it out. As soon as he blew out the candle, he reached back to the cake and removed one more, blew it out, and returned for another. As he reached for the third candle, he dropped one that appeared to be still lit, saying, “This is never gonna work, is it?” The staff awkwardly laughed.

Romney finishes the awkward moment with the everyday people, by telling them he’s glad he hasn’t had breakfast yet.

Watch:

Romney, who all but conceded to Obama after their first debate, suddenly discovered his voice when Donald Trump emerged as the clear front-runner in the 2016 GOP presidential primaries. In what can only be explained as bizarre, the suddenly outspoken Romney wasn’t warning Americans about the danger of electing Hillary Clinton, instead, he warned them about voting for President Trump.

Happy birthday, Twinkie…
