A San Mateo, California restaurant owner, and chef decided to tweet out his desire to ban MAGA hats in his restaurant.
He wanted everyone wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat to know that they will be refused service at his restaurant.
J. Kenji Lopez-Alt is an award-winning cookbook author and chef-partner of the Wursthall restaurant in San Mateo, California.
He said in his tweet that he sees the hats as symbols of intolerance and hate:
“It hasn’t happened yet, but if you come to my restaurant wearing a MAGA cap, you aren’t getting served, same as if you come in wearing a swastika, white hood, or any other symbol of intolerance and hate.”
We decided to go check out his tweets, and they have been removed. The tweets from the chef got mixed reviews. What stands out the most is the hypocrisy of claiming anyone wears the MAGA hat is intolerant. Isn’t what Lopez-Alt doing a very biased thing?
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the mixed reviews from patrons called for more dialogue.
YELP has reviews of the restaurant. The account is being monitored by YELP because of the ban on MAGA hats. We can only imagine.
The chef deleted his tweets calling for a ban but his Twitter page is still up. Some of the comments are pretty spot on:

And this tweet:
More than 1/3 of Hillsborough is Republican and many patronize San Mateo restaurants. You have already lost 4 customers that I know of. People are tired for being labeled racist just because you had a poor candidate. It's easy to do, it's inaccurate and it's prejudicial.
