Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau placed new COVID travel restrictions on airline passengers on Thursday.

On Friday morning, Trudeau announced all returning travelers into the country must go to a government isolation center where another COVID-19 test will be taken. If a passenger tests negative, they will be allowed to return home for a strictly-enforced another 11 days. Those testing positive will be taken to another government facility for the rest of their 14-day quarantine.

Trudeau said it will cost each traveler about $2,000 for the cost of the test, accommodations, and food.

While traveling from the US back to Canada on Thursday, Nikki Mathis was detained at the airport and taken to an undisclosed location by authorities. Despite having tested negative prior to her flight, Nikki Mathis was stunned when she was placed into quarantine by government officials at a state-run isolation facility upon her arrival at Calgary International Airport.

Nikki’s husband Chris posted his wife’s incredible story on his Facebook page:

It’s time to wake up. I can’t be silent any longer.

I have honored the COVID process, I have kept silent when I’ve wanted to disagree and I have chosen to take the high road when I haven’t agreed with policies or procedures but tonight something has happened that is wildly concerning and I can’t stay silent anymore.

My wife was in the States for work, she left 4 days ago. There were precautions she needed to take in order to travel safely, which she was more than willing to do, and did. Canada introduced a rapid test program in December which made traveling safe and easier during the ‘pandemic’.

She was free to travel as long as she had a negative test before she left for the states, and another one before she came home. Canadian airlines will NOT let you board if you do not produce a negative result before boarding. She produced her negative result before boarding the flight home tonight on January 28th, 2021.

She arrived in Calgary tonight and when she got there she was greeted by a Police Officer and a health official. They rejected her results and told her she needed to go immediately to an isolation facility. She was told if she resisted she would be arrested. She called me, and I immediately asked to talk with the officer. I talked with both a Police Officer and the AHS official, they reiterated what she had said to me. I asked for the address of where she would be, they said they could NOT give me the location address as it was confidential. I asked for their names, again they would not give me any information or their names. I pushed, I questioned, I tried to fight but they said they would arrest her if she resisted. They would NOT give me any information on where they were taking my wife. She was not allowed to get her vehicle from the airport, she was immediately put in a white van surrounded by police escorts and taken to an unknown facility that is under full surveillance and has security at every entrance and exit.

The Buffalo Tribune published photos shared with them that were taken by Nikki. This photo was taken from the back of the van that transported her to the isolation facility:

The photo below is of the entrance to the isolation facility, which appears to be covered in a white tarp for purposes of sanitation, can be seen here below in photos we also obtained from Mathis:

Chris continued…

You can imagine I am barely keeping myself together wondering what in the world has happened in our country in what seems to be overnight.

Will you pray with me that my wife would be kept safe, and our family and children would be kept in perfect peace while this continues to unfold. She’s an incredibly strong woman who is full of faith, but she is still a young woman and mom who is traveling alone.

Our rights are slipping right before our eyes and our freedoms are being stripped. It’s time to wake up.

In the video provided by the Buffalo Tribune, Nikki explains how there’s a guard staffed outside her door, preventing her from leaving.

Nikki also shared a video of the view from her room. The airport could be seen from the facility where she was being held.

The Buffalo Tribune reports – Parliament Member David Yurdiga has called the situation deplorable, stating that “this incident goes against everything that makes us Canadians. We should demand far better from our government; to not even know where our loved ones are being held is a both a breach of government trust and a massive instance of state overreach.”

Soon after, the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms announced its intent to sue the federal government, calling Mathis’ forced confinement unconstitutional and demanding her immediate release. The organization subsequently decided to begin legal proceedings against the federal government.

Nikki posted an image of her negative COVID test results on Facebook with a message to her friends:

Just got my test results back- negative for the third time! They told me I can’t leave until the morning. But looking forward to being home with my babies and Hubby. Thank you all for caring and praying so much, I am astounded at the support. Let this not be though just about “Freeing Nikki”, but the bigger picture here of the millions of Canadians that may be put in a position that goes against our freedoms. Over the years, being married to an American, I have seen the difference between what it looks like to be peace-keeping, and peacemaking. I will always make mistakes. Heck. I made a mistake when I took the wrong covid test. But you know we all want the same thing. For it to feel like 1991 again. Ha JK

Listen in the end, my heartbeat is to see Jesus magnified on the earth and drawing all men to HIM. We know our faith is not in a government or a man, but in the Son of Man. He showed us how to honor, as well as stand up for what we believe in. He showed us how to walk with humility when being wrongfully accused, and He oftentimes does things I would never do.

So here’s to hoping I get to go home in the morning and continue to quarantine with my family. Thank you Chris Mathis for fighting for me…I love you. And thank you, guys. For real…wow.

Nikki’s husband, Pastor Chris Mathis posted a photo of the happy couple along with a special message to his Facebook followers letting them know that after a very long and confusing ordeal, his wife is finally home.
