Here’s yet another example of eliminating our Christmas traditions but the people are not taking it. This is a great story of what can happen if people join together against something. In this case it’s the “poor taste” in replacing the traditional Christmas tree and tree lighting with a glacier. A glacier? Whoever thought of that should be fired ASAP!

The people of Charlotte, NC are amazing! The petition to #BringBackTheTree has over 15,000 signatures on it! They need 25,000 so please think about signing it. Here’s what the petition says:

Southpark Mall and Simons Malls have decided to abandon a long standing tradition of having a Christmas tree in the center of the mall and Christmas tree lighting ceremony. We, the community of Charlotte, feel this is in poor taste and needs to be corrected. As the Christmas shopping season begins, we feel Simons mall surely doesn’t want to lose customers over changing a long standing tradition. We urge Southpark and Simons mall to bring back our tradition. #BringBacktheTree @SouthParkMallNC @Simonmalls

CHARLOTTE — Taking the kids to visit Santa will be a bit different this year at SouthPark Mall.

Officials announced on Friday that instead of the traditional Christmas tree and North Pole set up, Santa will be sitting inside of a large glacier.

Simon Property Group officials say the new “Glacier Santa experience” is aimed to modernize the holiday experience.

The glacier set will include a sound and light show every 30 minutes.

The new display is getting very mixed reviews on social media, with a majority of people expressing their disappointment that the display isn’t more traditional.

A Change.org petition has been created to urge Simon to bring back the Christmas tree. Supporters of the petition are taking to social media using the hashtag #bringbackthetree.
