Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier on Wednesday announced a subpoena against former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Anthony Fauci.

“We issued a formal subpoena to Dr. Fauci under Florida state law seeking a breadth of documents ranging to what he knew, when he knew it, his doubts about the safety and efficacy of vaccines that he’s out there promoting,” Uthmeier said on Fox News.

“We’re really focused in on his self dealing. Evidence has come to light he was trying to personally profit off of this. This is outside of his government duties, his official role. He’s trying to pursue book deals, awards get conducted with high rollers that, you know, might help him come into millions and millions of dollars. This is wrong. And it could go towards a deceptive trade practice fraud, public nuisance, you name it,” he continued.

“When you get a presidential blanket pardon that should provide immunity where you can talk, you can explain your reasoning. You can explain research. I think his diary makes clear if he was not confident in that research. He doubted it, he doubted it the entire time. But he didn’t reveal that publicly. He was focused on the mandates and the lockdowns because that would sell. That would help get the book deal, the agency wanted to meet, help him to win awards and fame and fortune,” Uthmeier said.

“So we have a lot of concerns in Florida. We are going to investigate. If he has violated state law we will hold him accountable,” he added.

Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times when testifying last week in the Senate. Fauci refused to answer any questions about the origins of Covid, lockdown measures taken, and more. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) warned Fauci there will be a vote to hold him in contempt.

Uthmeier argued Fauci looks suspicious and like he’d hiding something when he uses the Fifth Amendment after receiving a presidential pardon from former President Joe Biden.

“Fauci’s lack of candor to Congress is unbelievable. My office is launching an investigation into Dr. Fauci. It’s past time we get the truth of what happened during COVID,” Uthmeier said after Fauci’s heated Senate hearing.

“I want to thank Senator Paul and the Republican senators for revealing some of the most clear and explicit evidence that we have seen yet to show how Dr. Fauci lied and deceived the American people,” Uthmeier previously said.

“He was pushing the vaccines and so-called medical treatments were safe and effective, where we now know privately he questioned them. There’s allegations he was making money on the side. People were injured. Billions were sucked out of taxpayers. There needs to be accountability. So we’re going to look at any and all aspects of Florida law that he may have violated,” he continued.

The tension between Florida and Fauci is extensive. Gov. Ron DeSantis, who appointed Uthmeier last year, publicly pondered if Uthmeier could prosecute Fauci on state charges since he was preemptively pardoned on federal charges by former President Joe Biden.

“We have got a new Attorney General coming in. I think he’s of the mindset to look at this to see what the jurisdictional hooks are, to see what if any (state) statutes may have been violated,” DeSantis said at the Yale Federalist Society in February of last year. He has also referred to Fauci as a “little elf” that he wanted to “chuck across the Potomac.”

DeSantis said Biden’s pardon of Fauci was one of his “greatest abuses of power” and even once claimed President Donald Trump was soft on Fauci.

“Biden intended to shield him from accountability and it may have actually sparked state-based efforts to ensure his accountability,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis renewed his Fauci criticism Tuesday when he spoke before the Florida Sheriffs Association, where he called Fauci “a complete disgrace.”
